Clever dogs enjoy the inspiration of intelligent dog toys. A creative idea you can make yourself by using Dremel® tools is a toy with a drawer and pull cord. Fill the drawer with a home-baked dog biscuit and you have the perfect, interactive dog toy for your four-legged darling. Simply pull the cord, find the treat, devour it and if you're a really clever dog close the drawer again. Woof woof!

Bring a warm glow to any outdoor living area with this unique lamp. Durable terra cotta material endures the outside elements and adds a relaxed garden atmosphere anywhere. What's more, you made it yourself.
Tip: Making more frequent, less aggressive cuts will produce better results. Using too much pressure or cutting too quickly may crack the terra cotta.

Use a Dremel tool to etch glass vases for decoration or special occasions like weddings, showers, birthdays or anniversaries.
Tip: Both clear and colored glass can have dramatic effects when etched.

An 8" diameter gourd will provide enough room for most birds. A 1 3/8" hole is suitable for wrens, titmouses and nuthatches. A 1 5/8" hole is suitable for bluebirds, swallows and some woodpeckers. A 2" hole is suitable for purple martins and most woodpeckers. If the gourd is thick, you will need to get through the shell gradually with a less aggressive, more frequent pass. Two coats of spray polyurethane each year will help protect your gourd birdhouse from the elements.

Low and medium speeds work best for etching glass. Using the 225 Flex Shaft attachment removes the weight of the tool from your hand and allows for precise and delicate movements. When etching in glass remember the diamond points will provide the finest line, the silicone carbide stones will provide the thickest line and the tungsten carbide lines will provide the deepest line. Dremel recommends the book "Easy Glass Etching" by Marlis Cornet, published by Sterling Publishing Co. for more information on glass etching.
Using the 225 Flex Shaft attachment removes the weight of the tool from your hand and allows for precise and delicate movements. For best results, start at the centermost part of the egg and work outward. The SC545 EZ SpeedClic diamond wheel is a very thin, fine wheel. It is used most successfully at speeds less than 20,000 rpm. Faster speeds may cause the wheel to get too hot and bend under pressure. Engraving cutters 111 and 106 need a 481 collet.

When working through the terra cotta, it is best to wear the terra cotta away with a less aggressive, more frequent pass. It is not possible to plunge the bit through the terra cotta. You can paint the terra cotta in seasonal colors or leave it natural. You can turn a terra cotta pot upside down over a terra cotta saucer to create a covered luminary.

Shells harden with age, so newer shells will be easier to drill than ones that have been in your collection a while. You may need to adjust the speed of the Dremel rotary tool when drilling shell, but you should always advance the drill bit into the shell slowly (slow feed rate). Gradual drilling will extend the life of the drill bit. Diamond point 7134 requires a 481 collet.
